Behind the Democrats and Naleraq there is the left -wing government coalition: Inuit Ataqatigiit, with 21.4 percent, who records a sharp decrease of more than fifteen percentage points compared to 2021; And Siumut, with 14.7 percent, who lost about half of the votes in the previous elections. This election process goes in the middle of unusual global attention after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, has urged control of this autonomous region in Denmark, the largest island on the planet, which strives to achieve its independence for decades.

His claims of the territory, without a doubt, for their geostrategic position in the Arctic area and the wealth in natural resources, have regularly registered the eyes of the world in elections in which around 41,000 people are registered to indicate the 31 representatives of an island that remains largely untrue and where 80 percent of the expansion is eternal.

Trump, who has already presented an offer to Denmark during his first term to buy Greenland, has assured that the United States will continue to guarantee the safety of the island, where it has been on the island since the 1950s. “Greenland is not for sale” is one of the sentences that are the most repeated in Greenland and in Denmark.

The Greenlands voted overwhelming in favor of self -government in a referendum in 2009, which also formed a way towards independence. The majority of the Greenlands are in favor of the control of Denmark, which decides in monetary, defense and external policy, although they do not know how or when, since Copenhagen offers more than half of the Greenland budget to cover the basic services of employment, health and education.
