Greece is currently being hit by mass temperature fluctuations: a new record high for March was measured in the weekend – according to the weather service, snow should fall again within a few days.
In the central Greek city of Livadia, the temperatures reached on Saturday 31.4 degrees Celsius – the highest value ever measured for March, as the National Observatory in Athens announced on the Meteo.gr website.
Sahara -dust in the air
Temperatures were measured throughout the country, which are more typical for May than before March. The unusual increase was attributed to Sahara material in the air.
“Such temperatures never existed so early in March!” Said the meteorologist Panagiotis Giannopoulos to the ERT television station.
Strong falling temperatures
From Tuesday, however, the Greeks must adapt to falling temperatures. “A cold air mass will offer shower and snow throughout the country on Tuesday,” said Giannopoulos. “In Athens, where we have 27 degrees today, the maximum temperature will be eleven degrees. This is a roller coaster ride, “he added.
In the Greek region of North Macedonia, in which 27 degrees were measured at the weekend, the prince can cause serious damage to fruit trees that are in full bloom.
Greece suffers from climate change
Greece suffers enormously from climate change. According to Meteo.gr, the country had the most popular summer and the hottest winter since the start of weather data last year. The high temperatures always caused devastating forest fires.
