First rain, then lightning: A via ferrata tour on the Hohen Krippenstein in Obertraun was torture for a Czech mountaineer couple.
Two holidaymakers from the Czech Republic, a 23-year-old man and his 19-year-old girlfriend, walked the Himmeleck via ferrata on the Hohen Krippenstein in the municipality of Obertraun on Monday. The two took the cable car up the mountain at 11 am and climbed the via ferrata in partly cloudy weather, otherwise good weather. The via ferrata with difficulty A/B can normally be completed in two hours.
no longer daring
After an almost twice as long climb, the two holidaymakers were about halfway through the trip when it started to rain. A short time later, the two noticed a lightning strike in their area and therefore did not dare to continue. They called the mountain rescue emergency number and asked for instructions on how to behave.
Mountain rescuers came with the quad
At the same time, mountain rescuers from the local office in Obertraun rode up the mountain with the quad bike to help the Czech mountaineers. At 4:48 p.m., emergency services encountered the soaked and somewhat exhausted, but otherwise unharmed mountaineers. They were escorted to the Krippenstein cable car and were able to use it to descend into the valley under their own power.
