It’s a case that’s been compromised, but it’s also revealing flaws in the health system. On Sunday an Upper Styrian (50) died after collapsing, there was no doctor or ward doctor on duty. Not the first such incident in the Ennstal region.
How sick is the health care in the Liezen district? After many years in which the ambulance vehicles of Rottenmann, Schladming and Bad Aussee or the C14 helicopter were alerted in almost every emergency situation, it is now time to tremble! Patients are increasingly waiting in vain for medical help.
This is what happened on Sunday evening in Lassing near Liezen: a 50-year-old man could not be treated in time after he collapsed. “Neither the emergency doctor nor the ward round were quickly available”, SPÖ member of the National Council Mario Lindner is shocked. “Despite attempts at resuscitation by the rescue team and the helicopter, who arrived after 40 minutes, only death could be determined.”
Already the second case within a short time
In the “Krone” conversation, Styrian MP Michaela Grubesa (also SPÖ) was deeply affected: “This is the second case in a short time in the district.” On the weekend of Corpus Christi, an emergency doctor could not be sent to cardiac arrest because the Rottenmann base was unoccupied.
Restructuring is to blame for the misery. Lindner: “Since June, the emergency care system in Styria has been restructured, leaving rural regions like ours clearly unconcerned. This is unacceptable!”
