Industrial activity in the CAV increased almost 11% year-on-year in February

The evolution of the February 2022 index compared to February 2021 was positive for all major industrial sectors. In addition, the industrial production index reaches a cumulative growth of 9.2% in the cumulative period of the first two months.

The industrial production of the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) in February 2022 is 10.9% higher compared to that observed in the same month of the year 2021, in homogeneous terms of the work calendar, according to data compiled by the Basque Statistical Institute, Eustat.

The annual evolution in February of the industrial production index was positive for the three historical areas: in Gipuzkoa the growth was 14.8%, in Bizkaia there was an increase of 9.4% and finally in Álava the increase was 7 .1%.

Compared to the month of February 2022 with the previous month, the industrial production of the Basque Country has increased by 0.7%, once the correct seasonal effects are adjusted, and in the cumulative figure for the first two months of 2022, the manufacturing index sector reaches a cumulative growth of 9.2%

The equipment goods: (including motor vehicle manufacturing, locomotive and railway construction, and aerospace or shipbuilding) are up 19.6%, and energy for its part is up 11.9% from February of the previous year. This sector includes the production and supply of electricity and oil refining.

The consumer goods show an increase of 12.1% as a whole, with an increase of 13.4% in consumer staples and 7.3% in Durable consumer goods (food processing and preservation activities, the manufacture of cleaning and hygiene products, as well as the manufacture of clothing).

The Intermediate goodsa sector that includes the activities of metallurgy and metal products manufacturing, the chemical industry and the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products, meanwhile, grew by 5.0% year-on-year.

At a more disaggregated level, below the sectors with more weight in the Basque industry, those who showed the highest year-on-year growth in the month of February 2022 were: Machinery and Equipment with an increase of 23.4%, transport material with an increase of 17.0% and Electricity, gas and steam with an increase of 16.8%. In the opposite direction, the only sector to record a decline in production is Wood, Paper and Graphic Arts with a decline of 0.6%.
