The investigations conducted in the Netherlands into the murder of investigative journalist Peter R. de Vries almost a year ago have led to two new arrests in recent hours, one of which was carried out by the National Police Corps in Barcelona and another on the Caribbean island of Curaçao. , under Dutch sovereignty. According to the Amsterdam Public Prosecution Service, a 26-year-old Dutchman whose identity has not been disclosed was arrested in Barcelona, ​​while a 27-year-old man with the same nationality was arrested in the overseas territory.

Both are considered suspects in the death of De Vries, who was shot dead in the center of Amsterdam on July 6 last year as he left a television studio. The reporter died nine days later from the injuries he sustained.

At the latest arrests, five people are already in prison for their alleged connection to the case, including the two alleged perpetrators, who have already been tried. The verdict against these two suspects will be announced next week and the suspects risk life imprisonment.

The Netherlands has requested the extradition of a suspected criminal who is in Barcelona through a procedure that is expected to take several weeks, according to the statement of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service.

Earlier on Monday, police arrested a Polish man accused of organizing the murder of De Vries, a crime that sparked a wave of pain and anger across the country. Krystian M., 27, while imprisoned for an October 2021 assassination attempt in the town of Zeewolde, as reported by the Dutch newspaper ‘Het Parool’.
