It has been struggling intensively for half time change for years. Some argue for abolition, others want to adhere to it. Now a new proposal is circulating for two researchers: they want to move the switch.
The time change is currently being wrongly discussed, Jorge Mira from the University of Santiago de Compostela and José María Martín-Oola from the University of Sevilla are convinced: this means that the rhythm of people’s life has not been postponed, but is adapted to the sunset by change of all activities.
The first weekend in April is more suitable for the switch in the spring than the last Sunday in March. Then cheaper morning light circumstances would be caught for a good start to the day.
Let summer time end at the beginning of October
From a physiological point of view, it would also be logical to end summer time in the EU early October. If summer time starts too early, a larger part of the human activities will be moved to the dark morning hours, according to the two Spanish researchers.
The winter time must be returned accordingly before the main activities began before sunrise. This year the clocks will be returned on March 30 on 26 October.
For people who suffer a lot from time change every six months, the Spanish researcher has advice. The alarm clock, which starts three weeks before the appointment, can be adapted to the “new” time every week.
The chairmanship of the council consults EU Member States
Since 2018, an EU proposal has been on the table to abolish the half-yearly change between winter and summer. Poland currently the EU council chair currently has currently investigating how the other EU countries are presented. But you have no big hope for an early solution.
“Since the committee has decided not to withdraw the proposal in its latest work program, we intend to consult the Member States informally to find out whether it is still possible to promote the proposal,” says a statement from the Polish Council Presidency of the APA. “We are aware that the proposal has been on the table since 2018 and has so far only been supported by the Member States.”
In the case of abolition, there is a risk of spot carpet in Europe
The EU committee’s proposal stipulates that there are no time changes. However, every Member State of the trade union must be left whether it changes throughout the year in the summer or winter.
There was concerns about this plan from many countries, because, among other things, a uniform time zone seems desirable for the economy, at least in Central Europe. Incidentally, Austria is officially preferred a constant summer time as a standard time.
