Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression on February 24, Austria has provided Ukraine with significant financial and humanitarian assistance. In total, the bilateral good amounted to 80 million euros – excluding participation in EU aid. Below is an overview of the most important carriers.
According to the Federal Chancellery, the financial support is divided as follows:
- Primary Financial Aid:
Good looking 59.5 million euros flowed from the Foreign Disasters Fund to Ukraine or to neighboring countries that have hosted a particularly large number of Ukrainian refugees.
The treasury transferred 10 million euros to the World Bank’s “Trust Fund Ukraine 2022”.
2 million euros Ukrainians have benefited from a state emergency aid campaign through the Red Cross and Austrian NGOs operating in Ukraine.
4 million of the humanitarian aid went to Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Libya. These countries are being hit hard by Russia’s blockade of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports and Ukraine’s very limited ability to supply grain to its traditional customers in the Middle East and North Africa.
The budget of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), which provides Austrian development cooperation, for the Republic of Moldova increased by 2 million to 5 million euros Ukraine’s tiny neighbor, a former Soviet republic like Ukraine, has hosted nearly 83,000 Ukrainian refugees.

Reconstruction conference in Switzerland
Ukraine’s reconstruction conference in Lugano, Switzerland, comes to an end on Tuesday. It is not a classic donor conference, but mainly serves to present a joint, comprehensive plan by Ukraine and its Western partners on how to systematically address reconstruction measures in the war-torn country. Austria therefore does not promise new funds.
