A supposedly routine activity led to the use of the emergency helicopter in the north of the Krems district (Lower Austria) on Sunday afternoon. A 64-year-old had retired to his office to clean his weapons. However, the experienced shooter may have made a serious mistake: there was still ammunition in the barrel of a revolver.
Moments later, a gunshot echoed through the building. A Ruger round went into the man’s right hip. The wife of the seriously injured initially did not notice the accident, she slept in another room. Only the 64-year-old’s loud cry for help woke her up. The woman immediately set the rescue chain in motion and provided important first aid measures until the Red Cross arrived. The unfortunate person was then flown to the hospital in the Christophorus helicopter. He would have been reachable at all times, according to the emergency services there was no danger to life.
Legal gun ownership
Apart from the extremely painful injury, the man should not expect any further legal consequences. He holds a gun ownership card and is therefore the legal owner of his eight firearms.
