Many readers remember the dramatic location during and after the last flood disaster. The threatening weather situation for thousands of swallows is also formed in our memory. An unprecedented rescue operation has now become an animal welfare movement that is unparalleled.
It was mid -September when a sudden change in the weather sealed the fate of thousands of swallows. A few days earlier there were still high summer temperatures above 30 degrees in Austria. But when heavy rainfall, icy cold and storms brought a tragedy that did not exist for decades. Thousands of swallows were surprised, weakened, weakened, without food and at the end of their strength.
The birth of the “Team Tierschutz”
An unprecedented rescue operation started: about social media, Messenger Services and reports in the “Kronen Zeitung”, a call to spread help as a current fire. A wave of solidarity was formed within a few hours. People in Oost -Astenrijk wanted to collect and bring the birds out of the air and bring them to safety.
A storm with fatal consequences
7,000 swallows can be delivered within just four days. But the task was huge: the birds had to be fed every two hours – even at night – to survive. What started as a spontaneous auxiliary campaign became the basis for a new era of animal welfare in Austria.
Animal Corner supports action
This swallow salvation showed what is possible when people with heart and energy stand together. Inspired by this incredible willingness to help, Tierschutz Austria founded the “Team Tierschutz” team six months ago – an initiative that offers injured and orphan costs in need in the future. Supported by the “Krone Tierecke”, the team has grown rapidly in recent months!
Organized in WhatsApp group
The initiative developed in a very short time into the largest volunteer movement for animal welfare in Austria. The impressive record after half a year: 220 missions, more than 1,800 dedicated volunteers and a newly built raccoon housing. Or sieve, whether she is nua, buzzard, hedgehog, pigeon or mouse Wiesel – the “Team Tierschutz” is tireless in action to save lives.
A call to all animal lovers
Over the past six months have shown that the security needs of animal protection need people! In the past week alone, the ‘team animal protection’ in the Vienna and Lower Austria area was able to save ten animals, including a field mouse, a decorative bird, a budget, a hedgehog, a crow and a pigeon.
“But the use of animals in need is far over. If you want to help, you can become a member of the” team animal protection “and be part of this extraordinary movement. Because we can save lives together – again,” shows animal lover Maggie with confidence.
