For a year fraud around a fake work of the world -famous artist Arnulf Rainer has now reached his final chapter: thanks to the tireless research of the Vienna State Criminal Police Office -especially the EB06 group, the fake work of art was finally removed from Omloop.
The colored photography in question was already offered as an original in a Viennese auction house in early 2023. But then the hour of the truth hit: Arnulf Rainer himself contacted the authorities and explained that it was a fake! The researchers immediately intervened, took care of the work and started meticulous research into the origin and backers of the alleged fraud.
Procedure had to be stopped
But the case took an unexpected turn: the seller had apparently acquired the counterfeit in good faith and could therefore not be prosecuted. The actual counterfeit? No longer traceable – the crime was already time – calm. The office of the public attorney Van Vienna therefore had to hire both procedures.
Nevertheless, the researchers continued their work: an independent request for court confirmed the forged and in December 2024 the Regional Hof van Vienna decided: the photo was finally deployed! This ensures that this brutal error never returns to the art market like a real Arnulf Rainer factory.
