With “potential-enhancing” Beer meat sausages, a Carintic dealer attracted the anger of animal rights activists. Although the meat comes from Slovenia, Tierschutz Austria locates a violation of the Carinthian Nature Conservation Act and submitted a complaint.
As a unique delicacy, which is supposed to convince in taste, quality and tradition, the Carinthian dealer offers the Bären-Würstl of Slovenia on its website for 14.90 euros per 200 grams. And that also emphasizes that the protection of the brown bear also plays an important role in Slovenia and that the shooting of the animal is strictly regulated.
In addition, the trader also advertises the product description with the potential -enhancing effect of the bear meat.
Criticism of dealers and Carinthia
But the members of Animal Welfare Austria are a thorn in the side of the Carinthian. “Something like this promotes the shooting of the endangered bear,” criticizes Michaela Lehner, head of the Law Authority of Tierschutz Austria. But the association itself is not only against the dealer: “Carinthia is known for its ignorance of strictly protected animals such as bears, wolf, beaver and otter. Nature conservation laws are activated here in times of the biodiversity crisis.”
The animal rights activists filed a complaint against the dealer. In particular, because of the violation of the Carinthian Nature Conservation Act, which forbids both killing and bidding and trade, strictly protected animal species.

Animal protection Austria now sees the authorities on the train. The case had to be clarified quickly because “the brown bear has already been eradicated twice in Austria. It is irresponsible and illegal to make a profit with the meat of these endangered animals.”
