The 32-year-old was driving on the S3 between the Weinviertel municipalities of Göllersdorf (Hollabrunn district) and Obermallebarn in the market town of Sierndorf (Korneuburg district) in the morning when he started overtaking at the construction site. According to witnesses to the accident, references to the misbehavior by means of a horn and headlight flasher failed.
Another car hit after the collision
Despite an emergency stop, the driver of the liquefied gas-filled truck was unable to avoid a collision with the 32-year-old’s car. According to police, the heavy vehicle also hit the rear of the car of a 27-year-old driving towards Stockerau. For the 32-year-old, all help came too late, the truck driver and the woman suffered minor injuries.
The gas from the badly damaged truck had to be pumped into a replacement vehicle. The crash closed the route for nearly nine hours.
