What started as a routine maintenance ended in a catastrophe: on Friday afternoon at 3.45 pm. There was a fatal accident in the simmering power plant. A 32-year-old professional diver, in use for repair work in a water pool, lost his life in a dramatic way.
According to the first information from the police, there was a serious failure of the radio connection during the dive. An alarm signal that caused immediate rescue measures: with a safety device and with the support of a second diver, an attempt was made to restore the man from the depths. At the same time, the Viennese Professional Fire Brigade with special units from the diving service already came.
All help came too late, employees died
The diver could only be restored lifelessly for different meters under the water surface. The exact cause of death remains unclear for the time being – the investigation is in full swing.
