After eleven days, the use of the Austrian soldiers in the fight against the mouth and the claw disease (MKS) in Slovakia is ended. The support of the federal army is no longer required.
“The authorities there have reassessed the situation,” said press officer Horst Langerböck the reason for the premature end of time. On March 26, the total of 53 military staff was originally sent to the Slovak region of Dunajská Streda as part of the EU -civil protection mechanism for disinfecting vehicles on the Hungarian border.
“For us it is now going back to our home base at the ABC Defense Center in Korleuburg,” said Böck in the long term. The army members are on their way to Austria.
According to the Ministry of Defense, 6400 large vehicles with 25,000 liters of chemistry and 250,000 liters of water were disinfected during the deployment. The Austrian soldiers had contributed to “the distribution of the plague, at least delayed and that further measures could be taken on time in other places,” said Defense Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) in a broadcast on Monday.
Minister of Defense received the soldiers in Korleuburg on Monday afternoon: “During these challenging days for all farms in Slovakia and in Austria, strong cohesion in the European Union is again clearer.”
The soldiers of the Disaster Aid unit of the federal army would immediately have been used to support the clock in combating the mouth and the claw disease, Tanner emphasized and thanked the emergency services.
The dru (“Austrian troops discuss relief unit”) is a special unit of the federal army for disaster help options at home and abroad. It specializes in technical assistance, decontamination measures and humanitarian support.
