A dead Roebuck with a shot wound on the territory of the Steinbach Hunting Association on the Steyr makes the alarm bells stark. Because: the police are already investigating three other suspected cases with wild animals killed. The hunters are irritated and now want to take a look.
The members of the Steinbach, one of the Steyr Hunting Cooperative, were not only delivered since Tuesday: four Wilde Kadavers were found within two years on their territory that suspicious wounds had. Studies suggested that these animals should not have died of a natural death, but from the effects of shooting injuries. “This is very disturbing, we have no suspicion of who could be behind it,” emphasizes Gerald Großhagauer, board member of the Hunting Association.
The last incident may have happened from 6 to 8 April. In the Forstau-Kraberg area, a dead Roebuck was found on Tuesday around 6 p.m. “We deliberately dismantled the carcass and then investigated in detail. A bullet hole was also found – that’s why we take a shot wound,” said Großhagauer.
No proof of the weapon
However, there is unclear about the type of weapon. “Unfortunately we have not discovered a cartridge and no output hole.” However, a decay process had already occurred in the carcass. For this reason, the Hunting Manager does not want to exclude that the approximately three to four -year -old Roebuck could have been killed by an arrow. “In any case, there is a suspicion that it was rewarded again. We reported the police business.” The location of the current carcass is only 20 meters from the Roebuck that was discovered in May 2023. “The parallels are striking. Based on the crack of the Schotgat, it was more about the weapon of a sports shooter.”
Wilderers would also have fallen victim to a series that was found not far from Ternberger Straße, just like a roe -that was dead on a meadow. “We reinforce our checks, now pay much more attention to suspicious perceptions, and every shot must be reported,” Großhagauer announces.
