Tschernobyl attack – protective coverage “partially lost function”

Date:

After the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine was attacked by a Russian drone in February, the waves go up again. The Minister of Environment of the war -based country reports that the function of the sarcophagus, which protects the dangerously destroyed nuclear reactor, has since been affected.

With a “very explosive explosive head”, a Russian Vechtdrone attacked the protective coverage of Chernobyl, the angry Ukrainian president Wolodymyr Senskyj reported at the time. The power resulted in considerable damage – photos were changed that showed a hole from the housing.

“The only country in the world that attacks such systems, sees nuclear power stations and has war color, regardless of the consequences. This is a terrorist threat to the whole world,” Senskyj warned.

And the danger is still not forbidden …
In short, the destroyed nuclear reactor must be removed. Together with the partners, an advanced schedule was made for this purpose – they don’t make it alone, said Ukrainian Milieu Swetlana Grintschuk. However, this must now be moved indefinitely. Both the plans with regard to the nuclear power plant and those to ensure that nuclear safety is influenced, which also includes the dismantling of unstable structures. The reason is “the attack on the protective coverage and the partial loss of its protective function”, GrintSchuk is quoted by the Ukrainian news agency “Interfax Ukraine”.

Look, everything is good?
After the Super-Gau in Chernobyl on 26 April 1986, a protective coverage was quickly built around the destroyed nuclear reactor with the aim of containing the radiation. However, the construction did not last as long as hoped: it quickly ran the risk of collapse. A new sarcophagus was needed, which was pushed on the ruin in 2006. In February 2025 the Russian drone finally hit the scale. Until now, the consequences have been considered uncertain.

Man probably overwhelmed by nuclear energy
The Environmental Organization Greenpeace points out that cleaning up Chernobyl can take a century. To date, there is still no repository for the 400,000 cubic meters of radioactive nuclear waste in the reactor. Employees and the environment run the risk of being infected. “We leave Chernobyl’s problems to the next generations because nobody can solve the consequences of the catastrophe.
