Greetings for believers – Pope Franciscus wanted “Happy Palm Sunday!”

Date:

Pope Francis showed himself on Palm Sunday on St. Peter’s Square in Rome. The 88-year-old was pushed into a wheelchair by his nurse Massimiliano Stroppetti in a wheelchair and blessed the many pilgrims who were collected on St. Peterplein.

Francis seemed to be in good condition. He did not wear a nasal cannula for the oxygen supply, but looked tired.

Instead of him, the Argentinian cardinal Leonardo Sandri held the liturgical celebration on Palm Sunday at the start of the Holy Week. 20,000 believers had their olive branches blessed and waved oil branches.

Thanks for praying
At the Angelus Prayer, which was published in writing, Francis thanked the believers for the prayers for his health.

“At that time physical weakness, the prayers, the proximity, sympathy and tenderness of God help me even more. I also pray for you and ask you to trust you with all the suffering to the Lord, especially those affected by war, poverty or natural disasters. Above all, God can take the victims of the collapse of a building in Santo Domingo.”

The Pontifex also called for peace. “May peace finally stop in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar and Zuid -Sudan. The blessed mother Mary gives us this grace and helps us to live in the Holy Week in faith.”

Because of his health, it is still open whether the 88-year-old Francis will participate in the Easter celebrations in any way. On Saturday afternoon, the Pope visited the Roman basilica Santa Maria Maggiore unannounced.
