Reader -debate – Educate instead of punishing – is that still enough?

Date:

In the “Krone” forum there is a lively discussion every day. In our section “Readers debate” we get exciting opinions from readers for the curtain – and invite you to participate. Today is the following question: what to do if young people go out of a criminal offense and the system looks powerless?

Violence, theft, hundreds of advertisements – and partly of children! The new crime statistics give rise to concern. More and more young people are becoming a criminal offense – and the most frightening trend concerns the youngest. The advertisements have been for the ten to 14 year olds Almost doubled. Minister of the Interior Karner demands harder measures: from case conferences to parental responsibility to the stop of the family judge.

Perpetrator too young for punishments – what then?
The subject also led to intensive discussions on the “Krone” forum. The prevailing opinion: If children repeatedly commit serious crimes, the system must respond – and not only when they are of the majority. Many readers ask for consequences, also for young people without punishment.

User “Hanang” Gives us the comment about today’s reader’s debate:

He demands consequences, even for those who are younger than 14 years old; In an age -suitable form. At the same time, the reader raises the question of what happens when parental upbringing failed and apparently only sees the state steadfast. He finds particularly problematic that young people can repeatedly commit crimes without being prosecuted. His suggestion: identify problematic young people in a targeted way and intervene early before they can cause even more damage.

Do you need new ways to also take into account a fulfillment of the multiple of the multiple meetings? Should parents be held more responsibility for repetitions? Is our juvenile law law realistic or can it offer the necessary hiding place? What role do integration and origin play in juvenile crime – and how should you deal with it? And can the early admission and care for “risk cutting of young people” prevent? Share your opinion on this subject with us in the comments!
