First cases of the mouth and the disease of claws in Austria are coming for a long time. As part of a joint focus campaign, the Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Nursing and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK), the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) are increasingly in preventive measures at Easter.
As the “Kroon” has learned, the police and customs along the East Borders will carry out controls on the Easter weekend – with special attention to traveling back, animal transport and possible illegal import of animal products such as meat, raw milk, manure and other risky products.
New import rules
The announcement demonstrates accurate organic security requirements for the import of claw animals from Maks-free areas outside the protective and limited zones in Hungary and Slovakia. The regulations apply to livestock farms, slaughterhouses and transport companies:
- Animals may only be brought directly from the origin company to a destination in Austria.
- The animals must be clinically healthy.
- A negative proof of the MKS virus (PCR and Elisa test) is required that is no older than 72 hours.
- When entering the posture, a 7-day quarantine fully insulation is prescribed.
- Strict requirements apply when delivery to slaughterhouses:
- No contact with other animals,
- Quarantine stable or complete absence of other required animals,
- Clinical examination by official veterinarians: on the inside
- Separate slaughter,
- Mandatory cleaning and disinfection afterwards.
6. Transport companies must clean and disinfect the means of transport after use and then return to the country of origin without a stop.
Location in Austria stable
As is known, there are still no proven cases of the plague in Austria. “All samples analyzed so far were negative,” says the authorities. The veterinary supervisory measures – especially along the border with Hungary and Slovakia – are consistently continued.
The federal government appeals to all animal holders and transport companies to strictly adhere to the new regulations and to constantly check internal organic security measures. Each contribution counts – for the protection of Austrian animal stocks and to guarantee our care.
