200 firefighters from the Zillertal in Tyrol fought a blaze early on Wednesday evening at a farm in Zell am Ziller. The farm was completely destroyed and the living quarters badly damaged. The cause of the fire is currently unclear.
The good news first: the 40-year-old owner of the farm managed to get the residents – including numerous holiday guests – to safety in time. Only one woman was injured in her foot when she fled the fire object and was taken to Schwaz Hospital. However, four pigs and two rabbits died.
“Suddenly heard a bang”
Shortly after 5 p.m., the senior farmer (67) in the farm was busy throwing hay into the barn for the animals. “Then he heard a bang, and everything started to burn right away,” said Alexander Stock, deputy commander of the Zell Fire Department. “When we arrived on site, the stable building was already completely on fire.”
Despite the quick response, the Florianis were unable to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent residential building. “The high winds blowing at the time of the accident made firefighting extremely difficult,” said Alexander Stock. Emergency services were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties.
many spectators
The extinguishing work was hampered by many spectators. “The farm is right next to Zillertalstrae, the many spectators who were standing with their cars at the accident site really bothered us, especially in the beginning,” Stock is annoyed. So it was extremely difficult to get to the spot.
Keyword Zillertalstraße: This had to be temporarily closed to all traffic from Zell-Nord to Ramsau.
Cause still unclear
In total, about 200 firefighters from Zell, Aschau, Stumm, Uderns, Ramsau, Schwaz and Jenbach were present, as well as the group’s company fire brigade with about 40 vehicles. The Florianis had to stay at the site of the fire until 7 a.m. due to embers flaring up. The cause of the fire was initially unknown, the police fire investigators will not come to Zell until today.
The evacuated guests stay with neighbors and in hotels the owners have another house. The rescued animals found shelter with some farmers in the area.
