With around 100 voluntary firefighters and 17 emergency vehicles, the Salzburg Fire Brigade moved on Friday to rehearse the emergency situation. The exercise: a fire in the northern tower of the beautiful cathedral of Salzburg. Before the fire there was a curious “emergency” …
When the cathedral burns, every handle must be quickly at the fire brigade. To rehearse this emergency, the Voluntary Salzburg Floriani was meeting on Friday afternoon. A fire was simulated in the northern tower of the cathedral – of course without real fire, but with theater smoke.
About 100 firefighters with 17 vehicles were deployed. Commander Mike Leprich: “It is important to regularly practice neuralgic buildings to renew the local knowledge and to consolidate the interaction of all emergency services.”
Curious: the exercise was planned at 6 p.m. Shortly after 5 p.m. you wanted to make sure that everything goes according to plan. The smoke detector was activated during the test of the fog machine. According to the Professional Fire Brigade, the wind had moved the artificial smoke in such a way that the alarm struck in another part of the cathedral.
The Professional Fire Brigade immediately moved in full gear with a few vehicles. After which it became known that it was almost a false alarm. The exercise therefore immediately included the involuntary “emergency”.
