The world says goodbye to Pope Francis: On Friday evening the coffin of the Holy Father, who died on Easter Monday, closed forever and sealed in a private ceremony (video see above). Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and 200 state guests are expected on Saturday for the large funeral at St. Peter’s Square in Rome. Krone.at and krone.tv report live shortly after 9 am.
The Italian capital is in a state of emergency: the highest security measures apply. More than 1000 police officers are used to protect the 170 delegations in Rome. While preparations for the funeral are in full swing, the Vatican has published the “last moments” of the Pope.
There were several cardinals and invited guests in the otherwise deserted church. The Dead Pontifex was previously placed a white sides towel over the face after the Catholic rite, as the Holy Chair announced. An official certificate was also placed in the coffin with a valuation of the life of the late pope. It says: “Francis left everyone an admirable testimony of humanity, the holy lifestyle and universal paternity.”
Funeral starts on Saturday at 10 a.m.
On Saturday the Pontifex will be buried in the presence of state and government heads from all over the world. Hundreds of thousands of believers are expected during the funeral ceremony from 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Square in Rome.
After the stock exchange at St. Peter’s Square, the coffin is brought to Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore. There, at his own request, Francis will be buried in a niche in the left -hand aisle of the church in the center of Rome close to the Marienikone “Salus Populi Romani” (Redding of the Roman people) that he worshiped.
Billions of people around the world can watch the historical event live on television. Also be there: krone.at and krone.tv report live from 9.25 am!
