Because the city lacks the money in asphalt, desperate inhabitants of a settlement in Braunau have to live along a “dust desert”. Various complaints about health problems. The road can remain without cover in the coming years because the state of Upper Austria crosses itself with regard to a loan.
“This street is a disaster. When our lion plays outside, coughs the same night. We have stuffy nose, painful eye infections and our sinuses are regular,” says Stefanie Pichler. The photographer (32) lives and works with a family on Kokegutstrasse in the center of Braunau.
She had moved to the ride house with a garden of an apartment in the city center because she wanted to offer the six -year -old son an environment in which he can leave steam outside and enjoy a nature: “But now we live along a dust desert.”
Don’t tilt a window
Because when cars pass by, clouds are formed behind them, whose particles hit the surrounding area. “Then you hardly see anything anymore, and we are dressed by dust and dirt. I can’t hang the laundry outside or tilt the bedroom window. We do it, everything will be gray.”
Friction under neighbors because of the dirt
Pichler and her partner Dominik (33) have to wash their cars almost every day. “The windows, roller blind and window sills are already dusty two hours after they have been cleaned.”
Drinking a coffee with neighbors outside is also not advisable. “We are already despair, it can’t go on. My customers are upset too. And because of the dirt there are even friction at the neighbors.” For example, these would accuse each other of driving too fast. Pichler: “No more than 20 km/h are possible anyway, because there are also many holes.”
Use all reserves
This is also confirmed by municipal councilor Günter Winterstätter, (greens) of the 600 -meter -long Kokegutstrasse, where countless young families live in children. “Actually, it was planned that a cover will finally be raised this year. But because the country does not want to approve that the city of Braunau will take out a loan for this, we will continue to live in dust in the next three years.” Reason for the country: Braunau must first use all reserves. “We do that, but we are a parish. What kind of feeling would that have?”
There are currently twelve children between the ages of three and eight who live in Braunauer Kokegutstrasse – and there will probably be more in the coming years. It is understandable that the parents do not feel good to send their descendants out because of the road situation.
Because cycling, while you are wrapped in dust by rolling cars, is not a pleasure for adults, but undoubtedly unreasonable for children. Otherwise you only know something like that about minority settlements in Romania, Bulgaria or Slovakia. It is therefore time to finally remove this status!
