Rap Outrage – Italy: Dancing and Singing in the Military Cemetery

Date:

A video recording of the rapper duo “Depra ft. Senx” caused outrage in Italy. Ironically, an Austro-Hungarian military cemetery in Trieste was chosen as the location for their music video. The two rappers appeared singing and dancing at a cemetery where Austro-Hungarian soldiers were buried in 1934. All this for a song that glorifies drug use and prostitution.

The Italian population was very upset, the media in Trieste reported. “Unfortunately, some people don’t learn lessons from history. I hope that the competent authorities will impose an exemplary punishment on the perpetrators, also to prevent similar incidents from happening again,” said Regional Security Officer Pierpaolo Roberti.

“This is outrageous”
Trieste senator Tatjana Rojc also condemned the rapper duo’s video clip, saying in a press release: “Our country’s memorial sites are not a stage for weird performances. It is outrageous to advertise in a cemetery where the remains of hundreds of innocent young soldiers who fought on one of the bloodiest and tragic fronts of the First World War.”

Military cemetery in good condition
The Aurisina Austro-Hungarian Cemetery is in very good condition to this day. The young fire brigade of Upper Austria and then the association of the Austrian Black Cross played a key role in the care. The Austro-Hungarian soldiers who fell during World War I between Monfalcone and Mount Ermada are buried in the cemetery, which is surrounded by a stone wall.
