Who doesn’t know it: the hours-long search for a parking space in the city. Though some places are empty but owned by someone. A new app made in Austria aims to bring these two sides together and declare war on the parking shortage.
Parking spaces in a large city are generally scarce. The all-encompassing parking sticker in Vienna did the rest. But you don’t have to. The “Parkbuddy” app aims to connect those who can temporarily provide a parking space with those who are looking for a parking space. On the platform you can quickly and easily use your own parking space outside your own hours of use – regardless of whether it is used by the neighbours, their guests or other drivers.
Share a parking space
After free registration, each user can search and reserve parking spaces or make their own parking space or garage space available to others. Searching for parking spaces is simple and intuitive with street names and a map, as you are used to from search engines and route planners. The uniform costs are 1.50 per hour for outdoor or garage space. Of course you can also pay online with a few clicks. The landlord receives one euro from this. Registration is free.
Good for the environment?
“Based on our own experiences and frequent layoffs when looking for a parking space, with ‘Parkbuddy’ we offer a platform that aims to make the ‘driver’s life’ in Vienna easier while helping our environment”, says Managing Director Martin Gottel. Because the time-consuming search, including the well-known “driving around an alley”, is an extra burden for city traffic and increases the particulate matter pollution enormously.
