“Kosmos 482” started on March 31, 1972, four days after the probe “Venera 8” (the Russian word for Venus), which had an identical structure and mission plan. While “Venera 8” reached Venus after 117 days and the first to successfully land on the planet, her sister round (“Kosmos 482”) did not reach her goal and remained around the earth in an elliptical job.

“Because it is a landscape device that should survive the passage through the atmosphere of Venus, it is possible that it withdraws into the atmosphere of the earth and undamaged impact,” said Marco Langbroek of Sattrackcam in Leiden in the Netherlands. “However, there are many uncertainty factors, including the long, flat re -Try track and the age of the object,” says Langbroek, who expects the capsule to enter the atmosphere of the earth on 10 May (plus/minus 2.2 days).

The Dutch satellite observer Ralf Vandeberg has already included a first row with photos of the capsule in the ground track. “We clearly see a compact ball!” He said. It is unclear exactly where this will crash. Because about 70 percent of our planet is covered with water, it is very likely that “cosmos 482” will end up in an ocean.

Planet with hostile circumstances
In short, there are hostile conditions on Venus, the average temperature is 460 degrees Celsius, the atmospheric pressure is 90 bar. But these values ​​only apply to the surface of the rough on earth on the basis of nature. At an altitude of 55 kilometers the temperature is between 0 and 20 degrees Celsius and the pressure is comparable to that on earth.
