Fully helpless and resolved in tears, Karoline K. reported to the “Kroon” Dierenhoek. For a long time she would ask her adult representative for money for the urgent cancer surgery of her cat “Kitty” to find without hearing. The “Kroon” wanted to help – but unfortunately it was too late.
In recent years, fate has not intended well with Karoline K. van Vienna-Floridsdorf. She slid into bankruptcy, got sick with multiple sclerosis and there were changes in personality and behavior. A lawyer was deployed by the court as a “representation of adults”, who should regulate financial affairs in the future.
When Mrs. K.’s cat suddenly bleed out of her ear last year, she was very worried and wanted to help her beloved velvet leg as quickly as possible and be medical care. Because for Mrs. K. Findelkind “Kitty” it was always an important anchor in difficult times.
High costs for intervention
At the vet the next setback for the Viennese, because a malignant tumor in the ear must be treated by a specialist in a larger clinic. Costs: more than 1700 euros! Incredible for the Viennese, the used adult representative also made a cancellation for the urgently necessary intervention.
No jurisdiction
“The organization of veterinary treatments is not undoubtedly in my responsibility area,” explains the adult representative at the request of the “Krone”. She also pointed to Mrs. K. that she would look around for a free treatment and that the interests of the pet did not fall in the field of activity of the statutory representative. A negotiation with the clinic for a payment of installment was not taken into consideration.
The fact that this approach will knowingly neglect an animal and at the same time must suffer a lot of pain is actually a reason for the veterinary authority. But this was also not called in to help the animal, because: “This is also beyond my activity area,” said the lawyer who was used. But the reduced owner was tied to her hands, she didn’t know what to do, her adult representative just looked away.
“Krone” family wanted to help
For Dierenhoekbaas Maggie Duck Fur this is a clear case to become active. “The fact that people have a pragmatic and emotionless access from the legal side is not surprising. It also cost us some attempts to the law firm commissioned at all. We wanted to help people and animals and the ‘Kroon’ family would have arisen for the costs of saving the life of the seriously sick house. But this should no longer prevent.”
Because the condition of “cat” deteriorated dramatically within a few hours. The vets suggested Mrs. K. to release “cat” from her pain and put her to sleep. Mrs. K. cried bitter tears on the phone with the “crown”: “She could no longer lift her head and not take a liquid. I am just sad”.
Incorrect assumption
An animal had to die because a representative of adults – of course rightly – did not see himself as responsibility. But wouldn’t it be a moral duty to at least inform the vets to save the animal? It is also strange that in a letter to the “Kroon” the lawyer stated only a few days before “Kitty’s” death that she assumes that the cat does not have to suffer at the moment …
Veterinary practice asked the representation of adults because of the costs of falling asleep. The acquisition of 153 euros was immediately and easily agreed. In the law firm people were probably happy to have an annoying problem less. Rest in peace, small “cat”!
