Alpine drama on Saturday in the Tyrolean Ötztal. A 41-year-old mountaineer died. The joy of conquering the top of the Vorderer Sulzkogel was followed by the shock when the woman fell before her companions.
The 41-year-old Italian was traveling with three other mountaineers from an Alpine Club group. Their target was the 2795 meter high Vordere Sulzkogel near Längenfeld. The group reached the top around noon. In the early afternoon we went back to the valley.
Fall over vertical rocky terrain
It happened on the descent around 2:00 p.m.: The 41-year-old went ahead and tripped. She couldn’t take it anymore and fell 150 meters over steep, partly vertical rocky terrain. Her companions had to watch helplessly.
The Italian suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Her companions sounded the alarm. The rescuers were only able to determine the woman’s death. Her body was recovered by the police helicopter.
