Depending on whether you book your holiday via mobile phone or the laptop, the prices for hotel and flight can vary with a maximum of 80 (!) PROP. This shows a test of the Chamber of Labor (AK). The AK advises the price comparison and calls on the EU to tighten the regulations.
“There is no logic to see which device and at what time you can book the cheapest”, Gabriele Zgubic, head of AK Consumer: Domestics. “Consumers: Due to this lack of transparency, this lack of transparency can no longer develop a sense of a good price.”
Often smartphone better for hotel bookings
In its test, the AK compared prices for hotels and flights to 22 different devices and in different federal states. The result: the price differences are generally higher than in 2023.
When booking the hotel via the Booking.com platform, mobile devices often performed better. But it is not guaranteed that the cheapest prices are actually displayed on smartphones. With the prices for flights on different platforms, the testers could not find any connection between the devices and prices.
Price difference of 80 percent
A concrete example of the AK test: a hotel on the Greek island of Corfu cost 629 euros for two people for four days in a booking with the notebook in Vienna. On 13 other devices in different federal states, the price was only 350 euros – ie around 279 euros cheaper. The price difference is therefore almost 80 percent.
AK advises on different devices for price comparisons
The AK recommends consumers to compare prices on different devices. Moreover, flights are often cheaper if you book them earlier. And another tip for technology professionals: with the web browser you should not follow activities and follow tracking and block personalized advertisements.
The AK requires better regulations for online providers for more transparent prices, for example understandable information about the criteria for prices. Here the AK sees the EU as a duty.
