Summer can come: in Italy the water quality of some coasts has improved, according to an annual survey. The Fee Environment Foundation awarded on Tuesday 487 Italian beaches with the blue flag, which stands for clean water and environmental protection.
That is two more than last year. Most of the award -winning beaches can be found on the Mediterranean Sea in the Liguria region (33) in the north of the country and in Apulia (27) in the south.
The evaluation is carried out throughout Europe according to uniform criteria by national organizations. Compliance with the standards can be checked by samples during the season.
Lakes in the north also excellent
The Blue Flag is awarded by the European Environment Foundation Foundation for Environmental Education (Fee), also in other European countries. Several lakes were also awarded in South Tyrol and in the adjacent Trentino region.
“This year we asked the municipalities to draw up and submit an action plan for sustainability that contains and planned the activities carried out and planned for the three-year 2025-2027 period,” explains Claudio Mazza, president of the Fee Italia Foundation.
Five goals were set for the three-year 2025-27 period: sustainable mobility, sustainable cities and municipalities, live on earth, live under water and combat climate change.
