GAS evacuation:- Breakfast, beer and dog stress in first aid

Date:

They had to leave their houses because of the acute risk of explosion, they had an emergency accommodation. Seven trauners are full of praise for the efforts of the helpers after the gas alarm on their street. Special requests were even fulfilled, but the dogs they had brought to first aid needed the most attention.

It was a coincidence that on Wednesday morning several people in Weidefeldstraße should have saved their lives in Traun. “If we had not agreed the service date with the heating installer, no one would have noticed the gas leak, and the entire street could have flown,” says Helmut Preinfalk carefully. Neither he nor wife Luzia or the dogs “Chiara” and “Hugo” had noticed the gas that caused the house. “The service technician smelled this and activated the gas detector when he got out – he struck immediately.”

Electricity away, from the houses
When the measuring device beep at the neighboring house, the installation program warned the emergency service of Linz AG. Result: acute explosion risk. The police and fire brigade were called, the electricity was eliminated and fire protection was built up.

No injured, but a cigarette would have been enough
“The gas pipeline was leaking, the largest concentration was in the area of the Kanaal-De Usteeg had a degree of about 60 by 20 meters,” explains FF boss Oskar Reitberger, which evacuated with 25 comrades and the executive ten houses.

Seven older residents were taken to the Trauner Stadium and provided by the Red Cross. “There were no injuries,” Rotkeuz Operations Manager Daniel Happacher emphasizes. Everyone was relieved that nobody had thrown away a burning cigarette – it would have been enough for a catastrophe.

Help also became a top priority
The waiting time that lasted up to four hours was easy. “Most affected people had not had breakfast yet, we spread food for them,” explains Stadsbaas Karlheinz Koll. A resident who wanted to consume a glass of beer instead of breakfast was also made possible. “It was still unusual that all dogs wore them with them. So that the four -legged friends could not step into their hair, attention had to be paid to the safety distance.”

“We always felt safe”
The leak was finally found and closed, the majority of the gas was sucked. The residents could go back to their houses around noon. Luzia Preinfalk: “The rescue chain was just perfect, we always felt sure.”
