Hardly any limit seems to be the creativity of some fraudsters. With false fines after alleged traffic violations in Austria, they tried to get money quickly. Before one of the victims raised the alarm.
“False posters that deliver fines from Austria that never existed.” Sounds curious, but according to the Italian Consumer Protection Association Codacones happened in the Catania area (Sicily). A traffic violation, reportedly committed in Austria, is reported to the letters sent by the state of Salzburg and with the Italian translation.
The “Wipe” is about an alleged speed violation. Also black and white: information about the person and the vehicle! The requirement? 30 euros that can be paid per bank transfer within four weeks.
“Built up to the smallest detail”
However, a victim who reported the incident to Codacons did not pay. It had never been to Austria. “The fraud seems to have been built up in the smallest detail to seem credible,” complained the Association Consumer Protection. The modest amounts would be used to convince people without many considerations.
