JJ calls the treasure chest. Tourism cheers in the attraction of the Eurovision winner and the debate about the great event 2026.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 could come to Oberwart! What sounds like a fairy tale for many already causes great excitement in the region and not only with Mayor Georg Rosner, who has brought his city in the race. The dream of the largest music spectacle in Europe on the front door also makes tourism in the Spa town of Bad Tatzmannsdorf in a jubilee mood.
There has been an unexpectedly high booking situation for May 2026. “Of course we are very happy with the many bookings that have already been received. Our apartments are now almost full in the stands,” he explains.
Local chief convinced: the region could do the nocturnal stay
“The song competition in Oberwart could actually be a sensation and an asset to the region. You could certainly manage the overnight stays, but we are realistically removed from it,” said Laimer. While the optimistic voices in poor Tatzmannsdorf sound aloud, the first worries are already loudly behind the scenes. Many of the rooms booked are currently free of cancellation.
If Oberwart is not chosen as a location, this can lead to a cancellation wave, dreaded tourism. Such a development would not only be sensitive to the local economy, but it can also lead to seriously interested holiday guests. The hoped -for Boom is in danger of becoming a short straw fire.
Speculation on online portals
In the tourism of Burgenland, too, the chances of the allowance for Oberwarts are evaluated as more than low, but with a wink with regard to the positive advertising value for the state to the south. “I would be very happy for the region, but in fact there is the possibility in the land of dreams,” says Burgenland Tourism chef Didi Tunkel.
He sees no negative effects on the booking situation: “At the prices on online portals you can see that speculation is being done. This is no different in Vienna, Linz or Innsbruck than in Bad Tatzmannsdorf.”
