Terrible accident at work on Sunday evening in the Tyrolean Zillertal: A 60-year-old German was hit by falling wooden beams and hot dirt during repair work at a company in Fügen and was literally buried under them. Colleagues rescued the man from the rubble, but unfortunately all help came too late for him.
The German was working on repair work in one with two colleagues combined heat and power plant when the tragic accident happened shortly before 10 p.m.
The system was taken out of service the day before for repair work. Before work began, wooden beams were placed to protect against falling debris. For unknown reasons, a large amount of hot dirt broke loose and fell on the wooden beams,” said the police.
Removed from rubble by colleagues
The 60-year-old, who was nearby at the time, was hit by the wooden beams and hot mud. His two colleagues immediately rushed to his aid, pulled him from the rubble and retrieved him from the facility.
Injuries were too bad
The two colleagues immediately made an emergency call and provided first aid. But for the 60-year-old German, all help came too late. Despite prompt medical attention, he succumbed to his serious injuries on the spot.
