Sunday did not go according to plan for visitors to the “Center Parcs” adventure pool in neighboring German Allgäu (Baden-Württemberg), which is also very popular with Vorarlberg families. After an early evening chlorine gas leak, 200 “water rats” had to be removed from the “sliding temple” by a large number of emergency services.
The chlorine gas escaped as a result of a leak in the chlorine gas tank in the technical room of the adventure pool on the grounds of the “Center Parcs” leisure park in Leutkirch. The escape was reported around 7:25 PM, after which a large number of fire and rescue services were immediately deployed.
No injuries
About 200 visitors were orderly led out of the adventure pool. These were all unharmed. Measurements by the fire brigade showed that no chlorine gas had escaped to the outside area. The spilled chemicals were tied up by the fire brigade.
Cause still unknown
The visitors could then return to the bathroom to collect their belongings. The cause of the leak is not yet known. Of the surrounding fire brigades, 66 emergency services were on site, nine emergency services, the chief of police and another representative of the district office.
