During the last weekend of the Film Festival in Cannes, large power outages took place in southeastern France. About 160,000 households on the Côte d’Azur are affected – also in Cannes. The festival palace has its own power supply, but an event had to be temporarily interrupted.
The Agency for the Alpes-Maritimes region announced on Saturday that there was a greater power outages in a part of the area. According to the operators of electricity network, 160,000 households were hit in the city and in the surrounding municipalities.
Film screenings interrupted in the “cineum”
The Cannes Film Festival that ended with the award of the Golden Palms on Saturday was also hit by the power failure – at least indirectly. The Festival Palace has its own independent power supply, which is why the festival took place for the most part. However, the film screenings in the “Cineum”, a plywood cinema outside the middle, were interrupted.
Both the city of Cannes and the Antibes that are about ten kilometers away are influenced by the power failure:
Police suspect arson
According to the police, the power failure was deliberately established, the officials accept sabotage. A fire in a high -voltage center in Tanneron in the VAR department was deliberately laid.
“A power failure has been influenced by Cannes and the surrounding communities and robbed of 160,000 households of the food since 10 am,” said the electricity provider RTE in online service X. The Endis and RTE teams are currently in use to restore the power supply as quickly as possible.
The electricity service provider RTE informs about the current location at X:
The last gala should still take place
The festival announced that it had switched to an independent power supply, which means that all events and demonstrations could be maintained on Saturday, including the last ceremony in the evening.
The Film Festival ends on Saturday evening from 7 p.m. With the assignment of the Golden Palm for the best film.
