On 1 June there were some changes in blood donors in Austria. On the one hand, more people can donate the maximum possible amount of donations per year on the other. The head of the styric Rotreuz -blood donation offers.
On 1 June the new blood donation rules will come into effect in Austria and is intended to guarantee more safety in accordance with the current state of science. For donors this brings some innovations – especially for those who have been special so far. From 1 June, men can donate blood three times a maximum of four times a year (so far six times) and women (so far four to five times).
Fewer people are excluded
“The big advantage of the new regulation is that people with certain car -immune diseases are also approved,” explains Christian Steinscherer, head of the blood donation service on the styric Red Cross. This applies, for example, donors who suffer from Hashimoto or psoriasis. However, only one organ can be influenced.
People born in Malaria areas or who have been there for more than half a year are no longer automatically excluded and may donate blood after the “freitst”. Moreover, competent nurses can also allow people older than 65 to donate from June, provided that they have been approved by a doctor in the past year.
“Unfortunately some fraud”
With the styric Red Cross you can see the innovations as a whole, even if the reduction of the frequency “is certainly a few donors, we are already sorry. But in total we hope for more donors,” says Christian Steinscherer and emphasizes that the number of people who donate the annual maximum volume is already manageable.
