A serious accident involving two cars has occurred on the B4 in Lower Austria. Two people died and six others were injured.
According to a report by the Niederrußbach volunteer fire brigade, the accident took place on Sunday evening around 7.30 pm. The driver of a BMW with a Viennese license plate had lost control of the vehicle for reasons that are still unclear when he came from the direction of Horn near Weinberghof. The car then collided with an oncoming white Seat with Horner number plates.
CPR failed
Several accident victims, including children, were trapped in the vehicles when emergency services arrived. To get to the five occupants of the BMW, the fire service had to completely remove the roof of the vehicle using spreaders and rescue scissors.
Five women were freed from the car. Two of them were resuscitated at the scene, but succumbed to their serious injuries moments later. The other three accident victims of the BMW were transported to hospitals with serious injuries by three Christophorus rescue helicopters.
Parents and children rescued from wreckage
The occupants involved in the accident were also freed from the vehicle. The parents and the children received medical care from the Red Cross helpers.
After the rescue measures, the two vehicles were recovered and safely parked by the Niederrußbach fire brigade using a trailing axle and a crane vehicle.
