In Carinthia, around 60 children need palliative care every year. One of them is the little Liam, who is already born with a heart defect. But now there is hope for him. An action day informs.
The history of the Little Liam shows that palliative care does not always mean justice of death. The three -year -olds were born with a heart defect in 2022. Shortly after birth he had to undergo an operation of nine years in Linz.
But that is not all: doctors also discovered injuries to their vocal cords. Liam could not breathe – he needed a tracheostoma. So artificial access to the windpipe, so it could breathe. A difficult and emotional time for Liam and his family. The family received help from the team of the children’s department of the State Hospital (LKH) Villach.
Nurse “is like an angel for us”
The care in the first months of life was particularly intense. “The monthly home visits have saved us many ways. I received help in changing the tracheostoma, we had excellent medical care at home,” says Liam’s mother Amela Omerovic-Kapetanovic.
The family of Cura Plus nurse Sabine N. has been regularly taken care of for two and a half years. “Sabine is like an angel for us. Today she almost belongs to our family. We wouldn’t have done it without her help.” Thanks to the Intensive Care, there is finally hope for Liam: the tracheostoma could soon be removed and it could be completely cured. “After all those years of uncertainty and fear, we are incredible that Liam will soon be able to breathe without help. A new life starts for us,” says the family.
An information event will be attracted on Saturday by the hospice and palliative thesis in the Atrio Villach shopping center. Interested parties can learn more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
