In the late Thursday afternoon, a holiday from Austria probably underestimated the strong current for the north coast of Sardinia. All the help came too late for the 80-year-old man, his 73-year-old woman was saved.
The accident took place in the waters of Maragnani in Valedoria in northern Sardinia. The two tourists may have had problems in the coast guard due to the difficult sea conditions and the strong current to return to the coast.
The 80-year-old may have left his strength, he was dragged by the water masses. A rescue operation was not successful. With the help of other swimmers, his 73-year-old woman managed to reach the beach. There she was immediately cared for and brought to the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari with a helicopter to get the necessary treatment.
