The La Libertad Party (PVV) has ruled with three other rights parties since last summer, but left the coalition due to differences in asylum policy.
The leader of the extreme law Geert Wilders He announced on Tuesday that his party, the La Libertad party (PVV), “leaves the coalition” of the government of the Netherlands, in which he had a majority and ruled with three other right -wing parties since last summer, due to differences in the debate to further limit the policy against asylum.
In a short message in X, Wilders has announced that “without changing the most important government agreement the PVV leaves the coalition”, in reference to the requirement to add to the agreement with which the cabinet was formed in July last year, an appendix of ten points for Limit the arrival of asylum seekers to the Netherlands.
This appendix made the public Wilders on Monday from last week, which was accompanied by threats breaking the government “if it is not reached within a few weeks” that limited access to refugees, “closing the borders” to asylum seekers and strengthening lines with the participation of the army.
This Sunday he added even more pressure to his partners by saying in X that he will leave the coalition – the PVV is the biggest match of the cabinet – as the other three groups –VVD Liberals, NSC -Democrats and the BBB Farmers Party– They are not going to support “the majority” of their proposals.
Because of this threat, the leaders of the four games yesterday afternoon held a meeting to ask Wilders for an explanation about their words. The meeting lasted a little less than an hour and the three partners said that they will not resist the plans to limit asylum, but left the responsibility to implement them faster in the hands of the Minister of Asylum and migration, the indignant straight Marjolein Faber.
Wilders said that he does not agree with that vision and that his perception is that his partners have no willingness to support those measures, such as border closure, ‘now’.
And after he had taken last night to think about whether his game, the PVV, was maintained or left the cabinet, he chose the second option, something that was already outlined last night when he warned that “this was not good” because he saw “a serious problem” for his game.
The Wilders party won Dutch elections in 2023, but did not have enough seats to rule alone. After a few months of negotiations, Wilders reached an agreement with three right -wing parties in July 2024 to form the government, without being the prime minister, nor had a specific position in the cabinet.
