The general coordinator of the union, Igor Arroyo, cites the increase in wages according to the CPI and the abolition of the double salary scale, together with the abolition of the sixth night as necessary points to make progress in the negotiations, although he regrets that the management “It’s not at that point.”
Euskaraz irakurri: LAB: “Mercedesen gatazka zuzendaritzak sortutako arazo bat da, 261 milioiko dibidenduak banatu ditu”
The general coordinator of LABORATORYIgor Arroyo, has emphasized that the conflict in Mercedes is “an artificial problem created by the company”, which was disseminated this year 261 million euros in dividends and whose personnel costs amount to only 6%. So, according to Arroyo, the management’s proposals – abolition of the sixth night and wage increases, although under the CPI – are “not enough because it is a company that has many advantages, it cannot be justified that the staff lose purchasing power” ; Moreover, he thought it was ‘irresponsible to take steps back’.
In an interview with Radio Euskadi’s “Boulevard” program, Arroyo referred to the new negotiating table meeting for the agreement at the Alava plant. In light of this, he has insisted that LAB has “a possible approach” and that it is willing to “reframe the calendar of mobilizations”, if the leadership proposes “progress on three points”, including the pay raise according to the CPI, the elimination of the double pay scale (working conditions are different for the first five years), together with the abolition of the sixth night, an aspect that management has recently given up. However, Arroyo has complained that Mercedes is “not at that point”.
As for the role of the institutions in the face of this conflict, LAB’s general coordinator, along with Garbiñe Aranburu, has said that “an industrial policy” is lacking and has criticized the public entities “letting the bosses do what they do, and in instead of taking the side of the workers or taking a neutral position, they have sided with the bosses. We are very critical of this,” he added.
Prompted by the criticism of Raúl Arza (UGT Euskadi) about the “no” to negotiate by the union abertzale, Arroyo has influenced the position of this union and that of CC. OO., which, he said, “are like the slogan of the bosses.” “The company has to ask itself whether it wants to agree with the majority of the committee,” he insisted.
