Federal, State, EU & Co. – Fighting inflation: Ludwig calls for “price top”

Date:

In the fight against inflation, the mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig (SPÖ), envisions a large-scale “price summit” with numerous participants up to EU level. “Given the proposals on the table, I think a price spike is very sensible to deal with inflation. All those responsible are asked to sit at a table,” he said via Twitter.

Party political bickering has no place in a tense situation, Ludwig argued. “Federal level, state level, all parties represented in parliament, social partners, European Union representatives and experts should participate in this summit,” he suggests.

“Price increases are becoming more and more unbearable”
“The goal should be to quickly put together an anti-inflation package as the price increases are becoming more and more unbearable for the people of our country.”

Countries are increasing the pressure – also the black ones
The call from countries to act decisively against the inflationary crisis has recently become louder. Governor of Lower Austria Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP), who also opposed federal party leader and chancellor Karl Nehammer’s line with her demand for a price cap, made the start. Her Upper Austrian ÖVP colleague Thomas Stelzer soon joined her, but emphasized that a solution had to be found in a European context.

Provide social peace
The head of state of Salzburg, Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) told the “Krone” on Monday that a European solution was needed. “In special times, special measures are needed.” The SPÖ is also in favor of further emergency measures: in addition to the top proposal from the mayor of Vienna, the governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, introduced a fuel price ceiling of 1.50 euros. After all, it also works in Hungary, he is concerned about social peace in Austria.
