A 15-year-old student has been detained in Puch-Urstein, Salzburg, since late June, on charges of involvement in a terrorist organization. He shared propaganda videos, wanted to join the Islamic State and had instructions on building explosives.
According to media reports, the Chechen, who was born in Salzburg and lives here, would have shared propaganda and execution videos of the terrorist militia “Islamic State” (IS) on various internet platforms from October 2020 to June 2022.
He is also suspected of sharing Salafist-jihadist hymns and battle songs for the “holy war” against the infidels and has uploaded some to his user account.
Explosive Instructions
In chats on a messenger app, the 15-year-old also expressed a desire to join IS. Last but not least, files were found on the teen’s cell phone showing how an explosive device is made.
FBI gave the tip
The investigators apparently found the boy through tips from the American FBI. US federal police officers may have spotted the user from Austria as part of a global internet monitoring for radical Islamic content.
The student was placed in pre-trial detention by the regional court because of the risk of escaping and committing a crime. According to the judge’s ruling at the time, it could not be replaced by milder means as long as the suspect did not break through his extremist views.
