Consecration in a dark time – young priest: “God is also in suffering with us”

Date:

For Corpus Christi, two young monks of the styric Benedictine monastery commemorate the victims of the Graz Killing Spree. “For me, the meaning of Corpus Christi: God is also in the greatest suffering with us,” says father Peter, who was recently a priest dedicated to his fellow brother Josef.

In today’s corpus Christi fairs, the presence of Jesus is celebrated in the sacrament of the Eucharist: because the Catholics believe that bread and wine are converted into the body and blood of Christ and God is really present. The election of the weekday is reminiscent of the Maundy Thursday, the day of the last sacrament. In many places the service is celebrated in public places, followed by the Corpus Christi procession, in which believers accompany the monstrance that is worn by the pastor with the most holy with prayers and hymns.
