Mountain Rescue warns – “Weather God” is becoming increasingly wilder and unpredictable

Date:

Climate change also fed summery thunderstorms in the Alps: after the flash dood of three hikers, the local mountain rescue explains the situation. The preparation is and remains the top priority in high alpine layers.

Summer, sun and refreshing mountain air! The almost to the domestic peaks continues cheerfully, but the danger to life and life is increasing. The reason for the “complete charge” for red and white mountain idues are not only the sometimes poor equipment with sandals, steering and co., but also fast weather fluctuations in the high Alpine terrain.

Intensive summer thunderstorms are danger in the mountain
A current study of Italian and Swiss researchers underlines this observation. Due to the global warming, violent, short -loving summer thunderstorms are becoming increasingly common and intensive. This can not only lead to falling floods and Degrades – with corresponding damage to the infrastructure – but also sometimes to death. For enthusiastic Mountain sports enthusiasts, not a pleasant situation.

Stefan Hochstaffl, chairman of the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service, emphasizes: “Don’t make a panic now and we stay to the mountains. But the right preparation and equipment is important. The fact is that we already have strong summer forms in May and June, and the times are also in the direction of Noon or Early afternoon during the day.”

This means that when planning the route, one must take into account and, in the case of cases, very early or should be for a short round alone. This credo also took three crashed hikers from last week, but changed tragically differently.

Individual cases are no reason for everyone –
As reported, a trio was hit by lightning of the flash during the descent of the Tyrolean lunch. Hochstaffl emphasizes: “If the devil is there, he usually has children – including the drama in Tyrol. In the last record from 2006 to 2014, 64 victims were hit by lightning, but luckily 94 percent survived.”

In an emergency in an open field, the professionals advise you to keep a simple chewing. Exposed areas such as watercourses, backs and, in the worst case, a top cross must be avoided. Important tip: place the metal objects at a further distance, place on an insulating mat or backpack and choose the Alpine Emergency Call 140.
