A major fire broke out on the Greek island of Chios. Due to the strong smoke formation, 16 cities had to be evacuated. The fire is repeatedly folded down by the strong wind. The authorities suspect that it is arson.
The smoke formation is so strong that it can be observed from satellites, said the Weather Office. According to the local authorities, eleven fire aircraft and helicopters are used. The Brandbrigade announced that units from other regions of the country are rushing to Chios to combat the flames. These are always folded down by strong wind.
A few hundred refugees from a recording camp were also brought to safety. The 629 refugees stay in a gym as long as it is necessary, the migration ministery continued to say.
