The national storm was short and violent on Monday evening. A man was hit and seriously injured in Styria in Vasoldsberg (district Graz Area). The storm also cracked trees in Salzburg. In Vorarlberg even 19 people were stuck in a gondola!
Shortly after 6 p.m. the storm started on Monday in the Graz area. Countless trees were also thrown into the capital of the state. It was especially wrong in Vasoldsberg: a 77-year-old man wanted to secure a canopy because of the storm. Suddenly the tree bayed next to his garden hut and fell on the Styrian.
Heli had to reverse because of storms
The Vasoldsberg Fire Brigade immediately found its way to the man’s house. Trees had to be removed from the street during the trip to make access for the rescue staff possible. The man can be released with chainsaws and cutting grinding machines and a hydraulic stamp and transferred to the emergency doctor present, which was deposited by the Rescue helicopter C12. Due to the weather forecast, the helicopter had to reverse. The Styrian was therefore brought to the LKH Graz with the salvation and serious injuries.
The Vasoldsberg Fire Brigade alone had to process a total of 27 operations addresses on Monday. “For us, the effort was not only a huge physical stress for us, but also demanding if you know that human life is in danger. The good cooperation with the help of all rescue workers, even in such difficult situations – even if it is not possible to reach the site – said great things,” said commander Kevin Linhart.
But not only about Styria, but also about the other federal states that the storm held away on Monday evening. For example in Salzburg, accompanied by a dense heavy rainfall. The city of Salzburg had to be used for more than 70 missions. Even roofs were partially covered.
19 people freed from gondola after storm
The storm had caused chaos, especially in Vorarlberg. More than 90 fire brigade operations were registered in a short time. It touched the Dornbirn district particularly hard: storm rods tear trees, covered roofs. Even 19 people and a dog were stuck in a gondola of the cart cable car! The reason: wearing and pulling had jumped from the lead because of the violent wind.
The rescue operation could only be terminated shortly before 11 p.m. All passengers were safely restored.
