After complaints were made to an AgrarMarkt Austria (AMA) certified pig farm in the Korneuburg district of Lower Austria, the public prosecutor has launched an investigation into suspected animal cruelty.
The Association against Animal Factories (VGT) had filed a complaint and the city district also submitted a statement of the facts. This was confirmed on Thursday at the request of a report from ORF Lower Austria by a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office Korneuburg.
Conditions were “catastrophic”
In a June broadcast, the VGT described the conditions as “catastrophic” and reported “numerous dead animals in various stages of decomposition”. The AMA blocked the operation for its hallmark and announced financial sanctions.
In addition, refinements to the system were announced, including more frequent checks and unannounced checks. According to previous information, the operator has implemented the measures prescribed by the official veterinarian “immediately” after the abuses became known.
